Brake Hoses
SAE J 1401 specifies the performance tests and all the requirements flexible hoses for hydraulic brakes (usually called brake hoses) used in the hydraulic braking system of a road vehicle. The specification also specifies the methods used for identification of the hose manufacturer that time ago required the insert of a coloured yarn in weaving inside the hose for an easy identification of the manufacturer. The last revision dtd. 5th February 2013, reports that The Automotive Brake and Steering Hose Committee has determined that the identification yarn is not necessary and it is optional : information can be printed on the hose.
The flexible tubes with which Unigom brake hoses are assemblied are actually made according to the rules reporting the presence of the coloured yarn. Our brake hoses are guaranteed by rigorous tests of preassure reaching 120 bar for a duration from 10 to 15 seconds. Combustion preassure of the hose is ( destructive test ) is more than 900 Bar.
Importance of brake hoses for a safe drive
When you discover your car has a brake problem, in particular a brake hose problem, it’s usually too late.For this reason it’s important to check the condition of brake hoses periodically, so you can catch potential problems before the entire system fails. Though brake hoses should last about 5 years, they are under a lot of stress : alterations due to time, temperatures and continuous solicitations. It needs to inspect them, it’s easy to learn how. Look at the hose and check if there are:
- Twisting
- Chafing
- Cracking
- Leaking
- Bubble
- Expansion
Feel if the hose is hard and stiff, soft or weak. If it ’s present only one of those characteristics, the brake hose is faulty. A faulty hose is indicator that the hose network has been damaged or compromised, be prepared to replace all the hoses at once for your car safety. It is recommended to replace the brake hoses after 5 years, if it is not necessary to do it before!
